ecobee error codes, explained
ecobee smart thermostats (SmartThermostat, ecobee3/4). Codes below: Message-based faults (calibrating, no power…). Each guide covers what the code means, what you can safely try yourself, when to stop and call a technician, and what the repair typically costs.
ecobee screen blank / no power
ecobee thermostats require a C (common) wire or the included Power Extender Kit — a blank screen almost always means the 24V supply is interrupted: tripped float switch, blown control-board fuse, breaker, or a loose C wire.
ecobee stuck on 'calibrating' / wrong temperature
After any reboot, an ecobee shows 'calibrating: heating and cooling disabled' for up to ~20 minutes while its temperature sensor settles — normal once, a symptom if it recurs. Frequent recalibration means the thermostat keeps losing power (see the no-power causes) or a sensor fault.
